Byadgi Education Society’s merchants’
Arts and Commerce College, Byadgi is one of the premier
educational institutions in Haveri district. Byadgi is a
taluka headquarter in the present Haveri district. Byadgi
has been very famous for Red chili. The vast and extensive
market yard is known as the second largest Red chilly dealing
market in the country. Byadgi was even known once as a famous
market center of garlic, areca nut, turmeric and jaggery
with all its Florentine background. This place has been
identified as a big commercial point in the country as well
as in surrounding areas.
In spite of the above listed points of environment, this
town was suffering from educational backwardness. The young
men of this area who were desirous of higher education had
to move to the different cities like Hubballi and Dharwad.
The enthusiastic young members of the then Lions’
Club of Byadgi decided to provide the town with a shining
seat of learning and develop it into an eminent seat of
learning. Hence they started Byadgi education society under
the presidentship of Sri. S. D. Shirur, on 13-10-1981.
Knowing the importance of primary education, before starting
the college, our society made its debut in the field of
education with the founding of pre-primary and a primary
school in 1981 and 1982 respectively. Afterwards to cater
to the needs of the locale in general and of the female
aspirants of higher education in particular our society
came forward with a degree college with Arts and Commerce
faculties in August 1984. Knowing the need of a good high
School in the town to provide quality education, our society
came forward with a high school in 1992. With an unflinching
co-operation of Sri. Gajanan Urban Co-operative Bank Byadgi
and the Merchants’ Association Byadgi, ever since
its inception, Byadgi Education Society is putting strenuous
efforts to cause the furtherance of education and also to
convert the locality into an acclaimed seat of learning.
The society has already provided the full-fledged and independent
building with all the facilities like teaching aids and
furniture etc., to its institutions namely, Pre-Primary,
Primary, High School and the Degree College. Thus, Byadgi
education society is parading fast in catering the needs
of the people in this area.
